A production batch ID should identify material prepared and inoculated under comparable conditions. Do not reuse it. Attach the same ID to block labels, room moves, harvests, discarded containers, labor entries and sales. If multiple cultures or substrate lots enter one run, either split the batch or record the exact relationship.

Record at the event
Enter inoculation, room movement, harvest and disposal when they happen. Reconstructed records are slower and less reliable.
Use controlled names
Keep species, strain, room, stage, grade and loss categories consistent. Free-text spelling differences make trend analysis difficult.
Review exceptions first
Daily review should prioritize alarms, stalled batches, contamination, missed harvests and traceability gaps rather than producing reports nobody acts on.
